Broadband Connections
High speed connection to the public Internet network
Dedicated high speed connections were traditionally very expensive items, the Broadband
service is in effect a large cooperative system, where the connectivity is centrally
purchased and then shared amongst a high number of users (contention) on a best
efforts basis.
By sharing the capacity users can all get a slice of the high capacity data network
delivered by various technologies including:- ADSL / ADSL2+, Annex M, Fibre to the
Cabinet (FTTC) or Fibre to the Premises (FTTP).
Not all Broadband is the same!
'Broadband Connect' is specifically engineered by IC for business users.
All the service elements are premium services and when combined together culminate
in a responsive, consistent quality service. The prices will naturally be slightly
higher than a domestic supplier but the demands and requirements between the user
groups is also vastly different.
Connected to a carrier grade core network via multiple Tier 1 carriers for
maximum speed, efficiency and reliability. IC tailor the service to meet the
business customers demands, ensuring that the network delivers the consistent
speed and performance demanded by the business user. Coupled with a UK based
technical support service and a low contention network, IC provide a complete
'business grade' broadband experience.
Connectivity Types
Next Generation Connectivity
Broadband is the collective name and your actual connection to the network could
be via different technologies, your connection options will depend upon your
location (see check / buy section for your individual options).
21CN - Connectivity (21st Century Network)
This is the next generation network and is currently rolling out across the UK,
offering more innovative connectivity options and better price and performance.
- ADSL2+ and Annex M
With speeds of up to 20Mb/s download and 2.5Mb/s upload this series of products
replaces the traditional 20CN technologies and offers more flexibility, higher speeds
and better pricing.
- FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet) & FTTP (Fibre to the Premises)
Speeds of up to 100Mb/s Download for FTTP or 40Mb/s for FTTC and 10Mb/s Upload are
available with the latest generation of access products. With rollout of FTTC now
underway and FTTP in trial Internet access is really accelerating and evolving allowing
much richer content and more innovative services to be used.
20CN - Connectivity (20th Century Network)
- ADSL & SDSL
With speeds of up to 8Mb/s download and 832Kb/s upload (asymmetric) on ADSL and
2Mb/s symmetric for SDSL this is the first and traditional broadband access
technology. Available in the majority of the UK*.
Notes: FTTC & FTTP connection is to a local distribution device either in
premises (FTTP) or in a street cabinet (FTTC) which is connected to the
telephone exchange via a fibre optic link, your connection is then from this
distribution device via a copper cable using the higher speed VDSL2+ technology.
*Requires a BT landline and is subject to the line quality and distance from the
exchange.
Data Packages
Only pay for what you use at each site
Data Packages determine the amount of data that can be downloaded over a
connection within a month during peak hours*. Each site / user simply pays for
what they use, ensuring that IC can provide the appropriate capacity and avoid
congestion and associated service degrading practices performed under 'fair
usage' policies implemented by domestic providers.
The packages available are
|
Package
|
Peak Hours Usage*
|
Home Office
This is ideal for single user connections
|
5GB / Unlimited*
|
Small Office
This is suitable for 1-5 users
|
50GB / Unlimited*
|
Medium Office
Suitable for small offices 5-20 users
|
100GB / Unlimited*
|
|
Additional data allowances can be added in 10GB blocks
|
|
If the above data packages are inadequate for the business then the Broadband Connect
product is probably not the right system as this platform is designed for ‘shared
use’. Why not see Ethernet Connect products for more details.
*Peak Hours is defined as 7am-7pm Monday-Friday during which the amount of data
consumed is measured and deducted from the monthly package allowance. Unlimited
access is available outside of the peak hours, data consumed during this period
does not count towards the monthly allowance as excess capacity exists within the
network.
Service & Care Levels
How important is your connection to your business?
Connections can be tailored to suit your application with the addition of the 'Elevated
Service' and increasing service and care levels with 'Enhanced Care'.
Making sure your connectivity is appropriate for your business commercial requirements.
Elevated Service
- Increase your Upload speed (double or more)
Faster sending of file / emails, more responsive connections for VPN or more Voice
calls...
- Get priority traffic with a 50% increase in priority above standard connections
Your connectivity takes priority on the network for the more critical sites.
- Advanced IP Services
Multiple static IP addresses, SMTP Feeds, Reverse DNS to enable Office applications.
Enhanced Care
- 3 Hour Response to Fault
vs. Best Endeavours on Standard Care
- 20 Hour target to Fix
Once reported the engineers aim to restore your service within 20 hours
- Weekend working
Should your fault happen on a Friday afternoon then do not worry as engineers will
work through the weekend to restore your connection and unlike standard care engineers
will attend your site if required at weekends.
